State Revenue Office Victoria

Usability testing revealed that the old State Revenue Office %28SRO%29 website was too technical and hard to understand. The site had organically grown over the years and had hundreds of pages of content that were difficult to navigate through and understand. The purpose of the website was to ensure we made complex information easy to digest, fast to load and easy to find. The Victorian SRO website is used by professionals such as tax representatives and solicitors and also by your typical Mums and Dads. Usability, clear and easy navigation and content are paramount to ensure the wide audience can use the site easily. The website has been built to work responsively across a number of devices and platforms. Technically Webplace had to ensure that the site could not only be viewed on these various devices and platforms but be easy to use and fast to load. Particular emphasis was placed on load speed and the capacity for the site to withstand large amounts of traffic. The first three weeks following go-live saw traffic of over 300,000 hits, the website and server was able to handle this with no degradation of service. There were many challenges throughout the project, in that Webplace were engaged to design, develop and deploy the site with some minor UX and strategy work. The project was to be based on previous workshops that had taken place and documentation from previous engagements. Identifying core issues with existing documentation and information architecture, Webplace had to recommend a change request, which altered both timelines and budget. Content review, rewrite and finalisation extended timelines out, as there were many areas to consider, as well as work out what was relevant and what was not. We are delighted that our new website’s fresh design and easily accessible content give us a fantastic platform to reach customers on the go so they can quickly find the information and services they need.%26%238221%3B – State Revenue Office 2015
